hill to find a solution for the impending fiscal cliff today. republicans claim the white house has yet to provide specifics on how the president will curb the rapid growth of programs like medicare and medicaid. the president is insisting that tax rates go up on families that earn more than $250,000 a year. house speaker john major is adamant that any new tax bracket is coming from overhauling the tax code and clearing out tax breaks and lower rates for everyone. it is 9:06 a.m. and we'll be back in a couple of minutes. let's take a live look at bernal heights. this big tree came down and we'll have more on that in a couple of minutes. among take a look at some of this damage from the wind and rain and san francisco's berle heights neighborhood. yoli is on the scene. what street is this on? >> i believe this is virginia street. it is virginia street. i'm just getting confirmation. this jury blancs to this city and it is on the sidewalk here. according to a neighbor they heard a fall around 4:00 a.m.. it was one of those things that history was bound to fall they just did not know when.

the president is talking about the fiscal cliff. an argument with republicans and how he wants things to go forward and how to avoid the fiscal cliff. the tear- gas to say >> we know how to do that but in washington nothing is easy sell there's gonna be some prolonged negotiations. all of us are going back to get out of our comfort zone is to make that happen. i am willing to do that and i am hopeful that enough members of congress and both parties are willing to do that as well. we can solve these problems. but where the clock is really taking right now is on middle-class taxes. at the end of the year middle-class taxes that are currently in place are set to expire. middle-class tax cuts that are currently in place are set to expire. there are two things that can happen. if congress does not every family in america will see their income taxes automatically go up on january 1st. every family, everybody here will see your taxes go up when the reverse. i am assuming that does not sound too good to. it sounds like the local you get for christmas. >> that is the president talking about the fisc

. lawmakers are edging ever closer to that year-end fiscal cliff. today we'll get data on personal incomes and spending and manufacturing. the dow ended the day up 36 points to 13,021. the nasdaq up 20 to 3012. with one day left to go in november, the nasdaq and the s&p 500 are in the black for the month, but the dow is still in the red. >>> president obama today heads to pennsylvania to tour a toy factory outside philadelphia as he continues to push republicans to let the bush aera tax cuts expire for people who make more than $250,000 a year. tim geithner made the president's case yesterday meeting with the four congressional leaders on capitol hill. reports say the president's first salvo calls for tax increases, $50 billion in the infrastructure spending and the power to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval. as you can imagine, guys, congress did not take very well to that, particularly on the republican side. but 31 days and counting here. >> here we go. >> the countdown is on. a lot of salty people on capitol hill. see if they can get this worked out before christmas
